The Year: 2008

We picked up right where we left off in 2007. January brought about three structure fires over a two day period. The first was a fire at the Liberty Pines Condominiums, and that was followed by the Finney Street Extension and Hodge Avenue fires the very next day.

The Year: 2007

The year began with the Benz Street structure fire on January 4th and closed with the East Street fire on December 31st. In between, we saw several other memorable fires, including: the Grove Street fires in April; the Division Street fire and the Main Street strip mall fire in November; then the Russell Street and Westfield Avenue fires which occurred in December, just one day before the East Street fire on New Year's Eve.

The Year: 2006

The largest fire we battled this year did not even occur in Ansonia. It was a mutual aid call to the United Methodist Church in Seymour. In fact, our men were called to Seymour for several structure fires during 2006.

Perhaps the most memorable fire in Ansonia occurred on Williams Street, for this was the fire where the new Truck 7 was christened. Mere hours after residents of Ansonia saw this new piece of apparatus for the first time in the Memorial Day Parade, she was called in to duty. Now that is how you put a truck in service!

FLASHBACK PHOTOS

Back in the day, before they came out with these new fangled gadgets called digital cameras, we used to take photographs with cameras that required film to be developed. This process would take days. Hard to believe, I know...

Well, we have scanned some of these photographs which hang on the walls of our Canal Room, and have added them to our website.

The Latex Foam Fire

On May 14th, 2001, the City of Ansonia experienced the largest fire in its history. The Latex Foam factory was completely destroyed in a blaze that ravaged the 284,000 square foot plant. Hundreds of firefighters were called upon from Ansonia and twelve surrounding communities to fight the blaze at this ten acre complex. This eight alarm fire caused millions of dollars in damage to the West Main Street factory before it was done.
